Before starting on interview topics we would like to draw your attention towards the Khotari committee report of UPSC  which has listed the following quality of interviewee :
  • Clarity  of expression
  • Grasp of narrative and argument
  • Reasoning ability
  • Appreciation of different points of view
  • Awareness and concern for socio-economic problems

WHAT IS EVALUATED DURING THE INTERVIEW?

The interview board, in order to judge your “POTENTIAL”  evaluates your Performance in recent past, operating  style, Team building capabilities, Effectiveness, Neutral judgement level, Transparency in dealings, Initiatives, Attitude and Leadership qualities.

The following general tips can help a candidate appearing for an interview, to face the questions confidently.

SHOULD YOU PREPARE PRE-SCRIPTED QUESTIONS?

It is important that you must not venture to go for an interview with a predetermined script of exactly what you are going to say. What is actually required, is the tactics that enable you to navigate successfully through the interview.

WHAT YOU SHOULD PREPARE?

You should spend enough time to make the choice of the contents relevant to your interview. Those content differ for interviews depending upon the level for which the interview is being held. Broadly these can be disintegrated into macro and micro aspects.

At macro level, you should have an understanding of regional, national and international economic , social and political events taking place and their bearing on the  structure of society.
At micro level you should have appropriate information about:
  • Your achievements during the recent 3-4 years.
  • Strength of your family background and educational and professional background
  • Your hobbies, leisure time activities
  • Important development reported in the Newspapers of recent weeks.

SO PREPARE YOURSELF IN THIS WAY THAT YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO:

  • Take full advantage of your speech and body language
  • Project a positive attitude and avoid the display of aggression
  • Understand your strengths
  • Cover your weakness
  • Focus on your professional achievements rather than personal performance
  • Do self- evaluation as to how, do you, deserve this post
  • Structure your reactions for adverse situations
  • Your hobbies reflect your overall personality( but in BPSC, question from hobbies rarely asked)

Don’t:
  • Never show aggression
  • Never show biased ness
  • Never be prejudice
  • Avoid half-attempted responses
  • Don’t be hurry to answer

What if tough questions are asked or you are not able to answer a question?

In spite of best of the practice and preparation, very often you may be asked questions which you consider tough and are unable to answer. Kindly do not try to give vague answers to such questions. It is better to let the interview board know that you are not able to answer the question, so that you are asked another question, which is one more opportunity for you to cover your position.

THESE ARE SOME SIMPLE QUESTION WHICH ONLY LOOKS SIMPLE BUT DIFFICULT TO ANSWER:
